Dances From the Heart

Sacred Circle Dances

Sacred dance is a way of expressing our spiritual nature through movement.  What makes the dance sacred is the consciousness with which we move -- the meaning of the dance.  We come together with the intent of honoring the Earth, of honoring the Divine, by whatever name we call It, and of honoring the Divine within ourselves and within each other.  We dance to rejoice and to give thanks, we dance to purify and to open our hearts, we dance to bring the Divine within our center out into our outer lives.  We join together to create community, to share our joy and to celebrate our oneness with each other and with all the Universe.

The dances offered here are easy to learn and easy to do.  We ask that you understand that the most important thing about the dances is their meaning, and what you experience within when you dance them.  Precision of movement is not as important as expression of feeling.

We recommend that when people come together to dance, they consciously create a sacred space in which to dance.  Bring candles, flowers, shells, crystals to adorn the circle, especially creating a center for the circle with sacred or meaningful objects.  Walk the circle before beginning to dance, consecrating the space; smudging or incense might also be used.  Try to dance in a room which is usually used for metaphysical purposes, and holds a good energy from this use.  And dancing outside, on the Earth herself, is best of all!
